Dear September: Next month will be better.

September came and went in a blink.

I can’t say I’m sorry.

This year, September was a mixed bag.

I won’t lie, my favorite thing about September is the beginning of football  season.

This year, football got even sweeter when my favorite team opened their new home The Star in Frisco practically in my backyard. We watched for months as the multi-use event center and the headquarters and practice fields became a reality. The grand opening was awesome, even knowing that Tony Romo had already shattered my playoff dreams.

School started and my favorite fifth grader brought her normal wonder and enthusiasm about going back “to rules”.  A friend called me from five hours away and asked if I had lunch plans, then stayed with me for three days.

We watched bird and butterfly migrations for weeks (mostly from indoors because of the mosquitoes).

And the rest of the month was too painful or pitiful to talk about. Life is like that.

So I spent most of September reading and trying to gain new perspectives.

Lucky for you, I think some are worth sharing.

I love that my fifth grader is so great at math, but there seems to be a lot of forgetting in fifth grade, too. Know the score, grade by grade.

A lot of my spirituality comes from the wind, especially lately. but even when you’re in a hurry, you can make a huge shift in a short time.

And if you need another reason why it’s healthy to forgive yourself, here are five.

Tell me, how was September for you?  Did you learn anything?
